    Bay leaf is an aromatic dried leaf of the bay tree that is primarily grown in the Mediterranean region. Bay leaf is primarily used as a culinary herb for flavoring in food preparation. Aside from cooking, it has medicinal properties and is used to control blood sugar levels, kidney stones, appetite stimulant, and other things. Bay leaf contains a high concentration of lauric acid, which is used to make insect repellent.   What is the purpose of bay leaf? Soups, stews, brines, meat, seafood, vegetable dishes, and sauces all contain them. The leaves are also used to flavor many traditional French and Italian dishes.
