Overpressurization can be prevented by using pressure relief devices
Pressure Relief Devices Pressure ulcers are areas of skin and underlying tissue damage. They can cause damage not only to the skin but also to deeper layers of tissue beneath the skin. The only way to avoid a pressure ulcer is to remove all external pressure from the body. Pressure-relieving devices (such as high-quality foam mattresses and overlays) mold or contour around the body, spreading the weight and relieving pressure on bony areas at risk of developing pressure ulcers. Some of the more complex 'high-tech' pressure-relieving devices may remove pressure from different areas of the body at regular intervals or include a fan that provides inflation to adequately support the patient. Because of an increase in the number of patients diagnosed with pressure ulcers, global demand for pressure relief devices is expected to rise significantly in the near future. Body pressure is one of the most important factors in the development stage of a pressure ulcer. An extrin...
