Burn Ointments Are Used For Treatment of Burn Injuries to Reduce Pain and Prevent Infection

  Burn Ointment   There are a variety of burn ointments, including petroleum jelly and aloe vera gel. Both of these treatments are effective in reducing pain and swelling, while the aloe helps to promote circulation and inhibits bacteria. Burn ointment contains 0.13 percent BZK (benzalkonium chloride) and 0.9 percent Lidocaine HCL. These two ingredients work to reduce pain and prevent infection while providing temporary relief. It is also safe for children and should not be used on broken skin or open wounds. While topical burn ointments are convenient to use , it can be difficult to determine whether the burn is severe. In the early stages, paramedics often apply a cooling gel to the burn to reduce pain and swelling. This treatment may be unnecessary if the patient develops a rash.
