Burn Ointments Are Used For Treatment of Burn Injuries to Reduce Pain and Prevent Infection

Burn Ointment

There are a variety of burn ointments, including petroleum jelly and aloe vera gel. Both of these treatments are effective in reducing pain and swelling, while the aloe helps to promote circulation and inhibits bacteria. Burn ointment contains 0.13 percent BZK (benzalkonium chloride) and 0.9 percent Lidocaine HCL. These two ingredients work to reduce pain and prevent infection while providing temporary relief. It is also safe for children and should not be used on broken skin or open wounds. While topical burn ointments are convenient to use, it can be difficult to determine whether the burn is severe. In the early stages, paramedics often apply a cooling gel to the burn to reduce pain and swelling. This treatment may be unnecessary if the patient develops a rash. However, topical ointments should be diluted with water to minimize the risk of bacterial infections.

To avoid adverse effects, burn ointment with antibiotics should be avoided. These are common antibiotics that cause allergic reactions. During this time, the patient should be kept warm with blankets and clean cotton sheets. These items are great for first aid.  Burn Ointments that are available over-the-counter should be placed in a first aid kit or medicine cabinet. Ointments with antibiotics are ideal for minor skin irritations, however, they should never be used on a deep or superficial burn. Due to their harsh nature, they may cause allergic reactions.

A Chinese burn ointment called MEBO contains beta-sitosterol and berberine, along with other ingredients found in small quantities. This ointment is a highly effective treatment and has been patented in the USA. It contains sesame oil, b-sitosterol, berberine, and a variety of other herbal ingredients. Regardless of the type of burn, it's important to keep it moist, even after applying the burn ointment. Often, small burns don't require a dressing at all during the day. In February 2020, the Japan Tennis Association (JTA) partnered with Kao Corporation and adopted its Biore UV sun care products to promote sunburn awareness in professional tennis players as well as over four million amateur tennis players in Japan.
