Electronic design automation (EDA) and design tool vendors for substation monitoring systems

Substation Monitoring System

Rising government investments in improving IoT-based communication networks and modernizing power plants are propelling the company's growth. Furthermore, the segment is seeing an increase in the penetration of monitoring solutions to efficiently analyze and automate facility data. The communication network is critical in power plants because monitoring devices and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) located at substations must be routed through utility data centers located elsewhere. Technological advancements, such as innovative communication and SCADA technologies, will power the substation monitoring system.

Substation monitoring is now an essential task in order to ensure consistent power supply to end-users. Transmission and distribution substations provide electricity to various loads based on end-users and voltage levels. There are various monitoring methods available, including wired and wireless technologies, and wireless communication technologies such as GPRS, GSM, and Ethernet. Specific parameters such as current, frequency, voltage, current, temperature, and power factor are monitored by substation monitoring systems. A substation monitoring system is made up of various pieces of equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, relays, APFC panels, and so on.

The data processing and transmitter unit, the load and measurement system, and the receiver and PC display unit comprise the substation monitoring system. Substation monitoring systems are widely used in the segment to improve reliability, operational efficiency, and economic benefits. The benefits of developing the IEC 61850 standard to allow interoperability amongst IEDs and advancements in the power ecosystem through several growth strategies, such as mergers & acquisitions, contracts & agreements, partnerships, expansions, and product developments, will provide an impetus to the substation monitoring system growth. The surge in CAPEX associated with the installation of sensor networks is anticipated to hinder the substation monitoring system growth.

The hardware segment accounted for the majority of the company's share and will gain a significant share as a result of its implementation in the mining, steel, oil and gas, and transportation industries. In electrical substations, hardware components such as microcontrollers, smart sensors, IEDs, cameras, distribution network feeders, and smart sensors are being built, and they help in the collection of real-time data, thereby providing an uninterrupted power supply in several industries, resulting in significant growth in the hardware substation monitoring system.
