Fabry Disease Treatment includes ERT (Enzyme Replacement Therapy) which aims to improve quality of life
Fabry Disease is an extremely rare, sexually
transmitted disease that is caused by a specific strain of Candida albicans.
Only one to two percent of the general population is affected by this disorder.
Those who have unprotected sex with multiple partners or who have multiple sex
partners are more likely to suffer from this disease than women and men of the
same age and gender. Although this condition is chronic, there are many
different Fabry Disease treatments available. Since this disease can be
difficult to treat, dermatologists may not always have to prescribe
medications.
There are several ways in which
this disease could be diagnosed. A physician can perform a simple physical
examination and take a culture to look for the presence of yeast.
Alternatively, a physician can perform typing tests and order certain tests to
look for a particular genetic sequence or to look for the lack of a certain gene.
A physician can also use an autologous collagen test (which looks for a similar
protein in a sample of tissue from a patient's body) as an early diagnosis
method. However, the Fabry
disease treatment is not sensitive enough to reveal subtle variations
in the disease's development or to reveal if someone has a genetic condition
that affects candida development.
A recently revised diagnostic strategy for
Fabry disease treatment uses molecular genetic testing in addition to clinical
manifestations and ruling out other diseases. For instance, in October 2021, Protalix Biotherapeutics requested the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of its
PRX-102 (pegunigalsidase alfa), a potential Fabry disease treatment. This
testing is done on blood samples taken from a patient's lymph nodes or from a
cutaneous lesion. The disease manifests through a thickening of the skin and a
discoloration of the skin that results in patches of redness or itchiness. Depending
upon the severity of the infection, various organs such as the eyes, nose,
mouth, and vagina can become infected. Blood tests can also reveal the level of
infection in various organs.
