  The global smart meter is expected to grow due to the rising demand for accurate billing and increased efforts toward energy conservation. A smart meter digitally transmits readings to the energy supplier, resulting in more accurate energy bills. It enables consumers to take control of their energy consumption, allowing them to save energy for other uses such as industries and medical equipment.

  As consumers reduce their electric demand, smart meters help the environment by reducing the need to build power plants or avoiding the use of older, less efficient power plants. The advantages of having a smart meter are that when suppliers have a better understanding of usage patterns, more innovations in the types of tariffs energy suppliers offer can be made.
