  Roxithromycin, or arrow-roxithromycin, is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic that is used to treat urinary, respiratory tract, and soft tissue infections. In short, it is mainly used to treat bacterial infections, such as infections of tonsils, ear, throat, sinus, nose, skin, soft tissues and lungs, and urinary tract, which includes ureters, bladder, kidneys, and urethra. Moreover, it is structurally and pharmacologically similar to azithromycin, erythromycin, or clarithromycin. Roxithromycin works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria.

  However, like other antibiotics, it is not effective against infections caused by viruses. It is only indicated to treat certain types of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, and pneumonia, otitis media, and urinary and soft tissue infections. Roxithromycin is a widely prescribed antibiotic for those suffering from mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. This medicine kills/slows the bacteria that cause the infection. It is available as suspension, syrup, tablets, and oral drops on prescription.

  Roxithromycin is available under several brand names. It is available in Germany, Australia, Israel, France, New Zealand, and South Korea, and is not available in the U.S. Its antibacterial properties make it an effective antimicrobial. Roxithromycin is generally taken on an empty stomach. It is best taken 15 minutes before or three hours after eating. It is essential to take the full prescribed dose and to avoid side effects. One tablet of 300 mg can be taken once a day; one tablet of 150 mg can be taken twice a day; two tablets of 150 mg can be taken once a day.

  However, depending on the condition and how the user reacts to the drug, the doctor may ask them to take a different dosage. Moreover, once started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. For the ease of remembering, take this antibiotic at around the same time every day to avoid side effects.
