Specialty Paper; Play Vital Role in the Packaging, Printing, Construction, and Labeling Industries
Specialty Paper |
Specialty papers are special grades of paper that have specific
properties and characteristics designed for a specific end-use. These papers
are useful in distinct ways to enhance the function, processing, or decoration
of another product. From currency to décor papers, coffee filters, carbonless
copy paper, and insulation paper, they are present in the daily lives of
consumers. Specialty paper is one of the most important segments of paper and
plays a vital role in various industries, such as printing, packaging, labeling,
and construction.
Specialty paper is not only used in printing and writing but has a wide
scope of use in various other end-use applications. These papers offer many
benefits such are light in weight, colorful, attractive, waterproof, temperature
resistant, and non-reactant, which has helped them gain traction in various
industries, especially in the packaging industry. Furthermore, the growing
trend of decorative interiors around the world has increased
the sales of specialty paper, especially from the building and
construction industry.
Specialty pulp and paper chemicals are raw materials used to produce
specialty paper. These raw materials are an integral part of the manufacturing
process of specialty paper. These chemicals help improve the functional and
optical properties of the paper such as printing ability, strength, brightness,
texture, and color, among others during the manufacturing process. Chlorine, hydrogen
peroxide, sodium hydrosulfite, enzymes and various surfactants, sodium
silicate, alkyl ketene dimer, and alkenyl succinic anhydride are some of the
specialty chemicals.
Specialty papers are useful in distinct ways to enhance the function,
processing, or decoration of another product. The papers offer a wide variety of
colors, unique texture, and feel, and are ideal for an extensive range of
applications. Thus, there is an increasing demand for specialty papers around
the world. In April 2021, Pixelle Specialty Solutions (US) acquired two
specialty papers businesses; Rollsource from Veritiv Corporation, and carbonless
rolls & security papers from Appvion Operations to ensure continuity in
operations, sales, and customer service.
